Vayots Dzor

“Vayots dzor” means "the Gorge of Woes", where according to some tragic legend a wealthy prince lost all his flock.  Anyway, the gorge is beautiful and loved and visited by tourists.  Yeghegnadzor is the marz capital, while the most developed town is Jermuk, Armenia’s famous spa resort.  The one village Areni had become famous by its winery, and even more world records: in 2008 near Areni village the world oldest (5500 years old) shoe was discovered, and in the same area in 2011 the world oldest winery was excavated too.
