Major towns - Eghegnadzor, Jermouk. The center of the region is Eghegnadzor.
Gorges and canyons are very much typical of this region. The peaks are: Amoulsar (2987 m.), Gndasar (2946 m.), Vayots Dzor volcano slogs. The region is famous for its rich reserves of building materials, stibium, manganese, and mineral waters.
It is a region of industry and agriculture.
Jermouk -is a health resort situated at 2100 meters above sea level. It is connected to Yerevan with a highway. Jermouk’s famous mineral waters are used both for drinking and bathing .They are recommended for curing a lot of diseases. There are about 40 springs with a temperature ranging from 57 to 64 degrees. The beautiful landscape and the climate of this spa and its surroundings have healthy qualities. There is a special pavilion in downtown where everybody can taste the mineral waters.
Noravank monastery is considered to be the pulpit of Syunik bishops. The main church of St. Karapet was built in 1227.The relieves on the entrance tympanum and the windows on the western facade are very interesting from an architectural point of view. To the south of the complex one can see a two-storied sepulcher church built in 1339.This tomb monument can be traced to the 4th or 5th centuries. To the right of the entrance of the tympanum, one can find recently discovered stalactite caves. The monastery was completely reconstructed and reopened in 1999.The magnificent landscape of mountains, surrounding the monastery, display a beautiful array of colors from the sun’s reflection.
